An SC connector features a snap-in design with a push-pull latching mechanism making it easy to connect and disconnect. The square shape makes it more compact and easier to use, though it is larger than LC connectors. It is mostly used in singlemode systems like telecommunications and networking.

An ST connector (straight tip) is used for quick connections as they have a quick half-turn lock. They are most popular with multimode networks like building and campuses. It has a bayonet mount and long cylindrical ferrule to hold the fiber.

An FC connector (ferrule connector) is known for its threaded design and use in single-mode fiber connections. FC connectors are less favored in modern networks such as high-density applications where LC and SC connectors see more wide spread use.
